BusinessDay, Wednesday 26 November, 2008
As part of its initiatives to eradicate poverty among Nigerians and the entire continent of Africa, GS Microfinance Bank has declared an initial commitment to reach 40 million Africans with its poverty alleviation programmes.
To this effect the bank plans to reach 4,000 villages in Nigeria and 40,000villages in Africa with its empowerment tools. Sunday Adelaja, a director of GS Microfinance, revealed that the bank would achieve this in the next 20 years. He also said that GS MFB would exemplify what it meant to eradicate the endemic problem of poverty with concrete actions rather than just words.
He stated that its not just about giving money to individuals, but we all have to empower the poor to ensure that they can fend for themselves for as long as they live.
The Ukraine based pastor urged individuals to stop blaming the leaders for the failure in the system, saying that everyone should add value to the country in his/her capacity.
